A bit about me: Hello, I am a researcher working on understanding how the plasma from the Sun interacts with Earth's upper Atmosphere. Understanding what causes Northern Lights is a fun way to learn about all the fundamental physical processes in our Solar System.

Northern Lights

Grades: 3 - 6

Dates: Feb. 9 - March 1

Meeting Times: Fridays, 10 AM - 12 PM

Location: Raven Homeschool, 4762 Old Airport Rd, Fairbanks

Cost: $195 

Description: This course will introduce the fundamental physics of the Sun-Earth system that cause northern lights in the night sky. The students will learn about the Earth's magnetic field, upper atmosphere, and ionosphere. In addition, the students will be introduced to the concept of space weather, which determines the occurrence of northern lights. The class will involve activities, experiments, games, and key Ińupiaq vocabulary related to northern lights.
