Please Note: Parents/Guardians are responsible for the supervision of their children in the locker rooms and on pool grounds, and they must remain on-site for the duration of the lesson.

We retain a $25.00 non-refundable processing fee in the event of a cancellation.  If you register and decide not to attend, you MUST drop the course via CampDoc a week before the start date or you will be charged for the full course. Swimming Lessons for Beginners

This program is designed for children who do not know how to swim but are NOT afraid of the water. 

Meeting Times for Saturday Beginner Sessions:

   Dates: January 20 - April 13

Session 1: 3:00 to 3:30 PM (Grades: 1 - 5) (waitlist only)

Session 2: 3:45 to 4:15 PM (Grades: 1 - 5) (waitlist only)

Session 3: 4:30 to 5:00 PM (Grades: 6 - 9)

Meeting Times for Sunday Beginner Sessions:

   Dates: January 21 - April 14

   Session 4: 9:45 to 10:15 AM (Grades: 1 - 5) (waitlist only)

Session 5: 10:30 to 11:00 AM (Grades: 1 - 5) (waitlist only)

Session 6: 11:15 to 11:45 AM (Grades: 1 - 5) (waitlist only)

Each class has 10 total lessons, but they are not consecutive. Here are the exact dates for Saturday lessons:

Saturday lessons - Jan 20, Jan 27, Feb 3, Feb 10, Feb 24, March 2, March 23, March 30, April 6, and April 13.

Sunday lessons - Jan 21, Jan 28, Feb 4, Feb 11, Feb 25, March 3, March 24, March 31, April 7, and April 14. 

Cost: $235

Location: Patty Pool, UAF Campus, Fairbanks

Description: Students will work in very small groups (3 students per instructor) for 30 minutes weekly over a period of 10 weeks. Instructors are members of the UAF Swim Team.

During the first four weeks, the emphasis is familiarity with the water, including putting faces in the water, basic floating skills, breathing into the water, kicking, kicking with a kickboard, and rotating from chest to back. Next, students will learn basic swimming skills and get familiar with back strokes. In the final two weeks, students will work to learn new strokes and be able to demonstrate their comfort in the water as time allows.

Swimming Lessons for Advanced Beginners

The advanced beginners' program is designed for children with some swimming experience who can swim at least 25 yards (one standard pool length) by themselves, regardless of time. If your child cannot swim one pool length without support or grabbing onto flotation devices, taking the Beginner Swimming Lessons course is recommended. 

Meeting Times for Sunday Advanced Beginner Sessions:

   Dates: January 21 - April 14

Session 7: 12:00 to 12:30 PM (Grades: 2 - 5) (waitlist only)

Session 8: 12:45 to 1:15 PM (Grades: 2 - 5)

Session 9: 1:30 to 2:00 PM (Grades: 2 - 5)

Session 10: 2:15 to 2:45 PM (Grades: 6 - 9)
