Please Note: Parents/Guardians are responsible for the supervision of their children in the locker rooms and on pool grounds, and they must remain on-site for the duration of the lesson.
We created the first round of mini-sessions because the Patty Pool was scheduled for maintenance in March. We recently learned that the pool project will be starting later than originally planned. This means there is time for another mini-session before summer. This session will be five weeks long, instead of four.
Students will meet once a week for five weeks, either on Saturday or Sunday. The swimming skill levels will remain the same, and instructors will share tips and tricks for practicing skills independently, should you decide to bring your child to open swim at another pool this spring.
Swimming Levels:
Non-Swimmers: This five-week program is designed for children who do not know how to swim but are NOT afraid of the water. Students should be able to work in a small group for 30 minutes and follow the instructor’s instructions. The emphasis of the program is familiarity with the water, including putting faces in the water, basic floating skills, breathing into the water, correct flutter kicking, kicking with a kickboard, and learning to kick on their back. Students will practice swimming on their backs.
Beginners: The beginners' five-week program is designed for children with some swimming experience who can swim at least 10 yards, regardless of stroke, time, or breathing pattern. Beginners will focus on learning proper breathing techniques and practice swimming longer distances without stopping. Students will be introduced to backstroke and freestyle.
Advanced Beginners: The advanced beginners’ five-week program is designed for children who can swim 20 yards using any stroke across the width of the pool unassisted. There is no time requirement. Swimmers will work towards swimming backstroke 20 yards unassisted and freestyle 20 yards unassisted, using an effective breathing pattern.
Reminder: Please determine your swimmer's experience level as best you can at the time of registration. Please use the swimming level descriptions above to choose the best group for your child. If you choose to register for more than one time slot, please maintain the same skill level.
